Gran Canaria Surf Spots

Gran Canaria is one of the best canary islands for surfing, along with Lanzarote, Fuerteventura and Tenerife. This is your ultimate guide to surf in Gran Canaria. We'll show you the best surf spots as well as the best tips on how and when to surf them, including swells, tides and other important conditions.

When to surf in Gran Canaria

You can surf in Gran Canaria all year long, being the best season from October to April, when the north swells are the strongest and the summer winds calm down.

Summer can also be very good and gentle for beginners, as the swells are milder and more suitable for learners.

Surf spots in Gran Canaria

Most surf spots in Gran Canaria are located on the north shore. The NE to NW swells coming from the North Atlantic are almost constant, making it the most reliable and consistent part of the island.

Las Palmas, located on the NE tip of the island has a collection of surf breaks suitable for all levels.

The East Coast has a few breaks that can work on NE to SE swells, although they don´t tend to work often, as Africa is very close to the East.

The south has some excellent surfing spots, arguably the best of the island. To work it needs any kind of south swell or a very big NE swell that wraps around the island. South swells are not common, but they happen every few weeks.

The west holds no breaks, besides being very inaccesible.
