Surf Garage was founded in 2022 by Sam due to a personal need. He and his friends needed a place to store their surf boards close to the waves.
Sam is is a typical lazy surfer who loves to ride big longboards. Longboards are the surfing equivalent of a harley davidson. Big, heavy and cruisyyyy (is that a word?)..
He used to store his big boards at his apartment on the second floor of a building. Carrying his board down the tiny stairway bumping it on every turn wasn't so much fun. After dozens of dings and angry neighbors complaining about little drops of water all over the staircase, he decided to open a self-service surfboard storage space.
The Making of Surf Garage
The space where Surf Garage exists today used to be a place to buy/sell gold. It took 6 months of sweat, tears, dust, beers, pain, happiness, breaking, building, drawing, painting, and looking for solutions on the internet to transform it to a surfboard storage space.
As the project came along, Sam decided to combine his passion of phography and surf. The left wall in the shop was in pretty bad shape with tons of holes in it. Apparently it was built from the sand from Las Canteras. Up until a couple of decades ago, all of Guanarteme was apparently just a bunch of sand dunes.
So instead of repairing the wall, we covered it with surf photography and artwork. And then in 2024, we went ahead and created an online marketplace for artwork from local Canarian Artists. Check it out https://surfgarage.art!
